Ron Buchanan
Ron Buchanan has been calling for 40 years. He began dancing as a child at barn dances held by his family in western Pennsylvania. Since then he has called from Boston to LA, from Tampa to Fairbanks, and hundreds of dances in between. He is known for efficient walk-through, quick wit, high energy patter as well as teaching others to call. He is also a well-respected dance choreographer known for a wonderful repertoire of square and contra dances with unusual twists and well-sequenced figures. Ron has called, taught swing, and shared many dances he has written at camps and weekends across the United States, Canada, Scotland, and Denmark.
Phoebe Williams
Phoebe Williams hails from Blacksburg, VA. She calls at dances throughout the eastern region. In addition to contras, Phoebe calls interesting dances that feature unusual formations.
The Contrarians
With their patent-pending, contrarian approach to traditional celtic, New England, and "New Traditional" tunes (including a batch of their originals, some included on their CD), the Contrarians deliver the goods. Underlying their driving melodies is a rhythmic underpinning that can either float like a butterfly or sting like a bee, providing dancers with an ever-changing musical magic carpet to fly on.
Their instrumental "arsenal for peace" includes fiddles, mandolin, tenor banjo, guitar, a bluesy trumpet, saxophone, piano, bass, and when the fit takes them, vocals.
"CONTRARIANS - YOU ROCK SO HARD!!!" -- Shouted from the floor in Greenville, SC by an as-yet unidentified young woman with long blond hair (and excellent taste)
Suz Cleaver
Suz will lead workshops in Cajun and Zydeco dance. She is an avid dancer, traveling to Cajun and Zydeco venues in Louisiana and around the nation. She brings a warm and vibrant personality to her dance workshops. Even novice dances are soon up and dancing to the infectious Cajun / Zydeco tunes when Suz leads a dance.
